FAQ'S
How long did you lived on the bus?
We purchased our original bus for the school bus conversion in February of 2017. And before we knew it we were picking our bus up on July 22nd, 2017. In August of 2017 we moved our 4 kids onto the Skoolie, FULL TIME!
Do your kids go to school?
Yes they do. We take every year and every kid at a time but we have decided that this year the right choice for our children is to be in school and we LOVE the one we found!
Did you build out the bus?
We mainly did finishing touches like the tile, painting etc. We hired a company to build out the main structure of the bus but we don't recommend them because their workmanship was not good. We still have plumbing issues that they haven't fixed and there were leaks in the roof, the hot water heater wasn't working...a list of about 40 items that were not working correctly. We've had someone come out and fix most of the issues but it was extremely frustrating and disappointing. The total conversion cost 38k.
Do you have a car?
YES! We plan on getting a tow on the bus so we can bring our car in the future but right now we drive the car behind the bus.
Do you have a special license to drive your home?
Nope! Our bus is registered as an RV. Once the conversion process was done we took it to the local TAG agency where they inspected it and gave us the registration as an RV (an easy process despite hearing so many horror stories!). Because it's an RV we don't need any type of special license to drive it.
Where do you park?
Our bus isn't fitted with solar so we currently park and plug into RV parks. This takes care of electricity and emptying our sewage tanks. We have never had a problem with parking our skoolie at an RV park and they usually have a discount rate if you stay for a full month.
What kind of gas mileage do you get?
Around 9 MPG
How do you guys lock up at night?
Our bus has a regular RV door with double locks.
How do you find places to park?
We literally look up RV parks on the internet or Camping Directory. We've never had an issue parking at an RV park. We tell them that we drive a school bus conversion and have never been turned away. :)
